In any case, I have had the great opportunity to work in the a music video I co-directed with Irena Dragic where I also had the opportunity to work using Motion Graphics; it was an experience!! it took quite a lot time but I’ve learnt a lot, and I am very happy with the result! Thanks to QBoy and Icykal for this oportunity!

They have also published one of the videos Irena and I shot for the blog Queersighted (there are a few waiting there: we’ve had the chance to meet Bananrama, Natalie Imbruglia, The Veronicas, Gossip and Gabriella Cilmi in the past few months!), you can check the latest (G. Cilmi) below

Also, I released 2 “private” videos from vimeo, the ones we produced for the latest Film Festival we organized, The FilmMet Awards (who know if there will be a third festival…). Nick is simply hilarious on them, he should do more acting; he was write in Mimesis indeed (^.^)

Este año con la compra del iPhone estrené algo muy util: el bloc (no confundir con blog) de notas; una aplicación amarilla que es como la lista de la compra. Y de hecho pongo la lista de la compra ahí… Que, como vengo de una familia que se olvida el horno encendido todo el día, el perro a la salida del supermercado, o a un amigo a la entrada de un cine, mejor no me explayo con la verdadera utilidad que le estoy dando a infinitas listas que nunca acabo por consumar.

A lo que iba. Esta amarillenta aplicación tiene ciertas utilidades. En ella guardo varias listas que han ido creciendo durante todo el año, y de la cual estoy bastante contento de haber podido guardar. ¿Por qué? Pues porque este ser que se olvida de traer ese DVD que tenía que devolver a esa persona desde hace miles de meses (y que para colmo queda para devolvésela sin llevar el objeto consigo) tiene la curiosa manía de encontrar inspiración en los momentos más variopintos.

Una de la lista es “Ideas para cortos o películas” de las cual, si algún día me digno, empezaré a escribir alguno. Tengo desde las más disparatadas estupideces, hasta las más asquerosas pretensiones. Como no quiero estropear el misterio de muchas de ellas (porque seguro de que hablo de ellas y se van al traste), sólo diré un poco por encima lo que hay: una idea para un corto experimental, otro para otra de mis ralladas existencialistas (como los cortos Mimesis o Deadline), humor absurdo o surrealista, un musical (¿?¿), una de fantasía e incluso la absurda idea de escribir un libro en reverso invirtiendo los argumentos de André Bazin en ‘¿Qué es el cine?’ en lo que hubiera acabado bautizando ‘Es el cine ¿¡qué?!’.. (sin comentarios)

Tengo también una historia interesante, que aunque siga en la línea auto-reflexiva y exitencialista de mis cortos (de la cual quiero huir un poco para acercarme más al planeta Tierra) se aleja también bastante de ello… pero hay varias prioridades antes.

Tengo, como he ido diciendo mil veces desde hace más de un año, 3 guiones en el tintero. Uno de ellos es la adaptación de un relato corto de mi amigo Peter de Bont, que tiene incluso un storyboard precioso completado casi a la mitad…

…pero he decidido postponer todos los proyectos, reescribir mi esperado corto del cyborg y comenzar a preparar más material online…

De hecho, en cuestión de producción de material audiovisual online (algo de lo que ignoraba en terminología, que parece llamarse “crossmedia” o algo así??) la cosa no pinta tan mala… aunque bueno, veo que tengo que poner muchas esperanzas en ello (y más tiempo; creo que no le estoy dedicando el suficiente); tengo una idea para una serie con estilo cómic oscuro, sobre una adolescente, que percibe la realidad de los adultos de alguna manera distorsionada. Tengo muchas ganas de hacer esta historia, pero tengo que darle más forma. Para empezar quería producirla en inglés, y sin ninguna frecuencia, en una web TV que ya crearía para cuando llegue el momento de crear el canal de producciones, etc.

Por otro lado probablemente reconstruya los escombros que han quedado de la sociedad de cine que creé durante mi estancia en la London Metropolitan University. Esta vez creo que tengo más claro cómo llevarla adelante. Ojalá no me equivoque.

Con todo este rollo no he contado qué más listas pendientes aguardan en mi iPhone, pero ahora tengo sueño… de eso nunca me olvido. A ver si escribo de nuevo en breve.

To start I think I never mentioned that we had been shown our Go Team short film Mimesis at the Portobello Film Festival, which was a nice thing given that there is still some dialogues are still unintelligible (It is a real shame what happened to the original footage on an external hard drive that -also- broke long ago. Maybe one day, with some free time, I fix some bits of the film in regards to the sound)

Apart from this, I am fully focused on the editing of our latest production, ‘Denmark Street’ – A Spanish online series which focuses on the lives of 4 band members trying to record their first album in English (here a link to the site where it is being shown at the moment)

I’m focusing in developing some other projects which I’d like to explain later on in further posts. On the meantime I am desperately looking for -paid- work while I do so.

I recently recorded an interview upon request of Anthony Van Hoe, who is in charge of Cinematical Spain at AOL Europe. This one, however, was for the Gay Blog Queersighted, and we had the honour to meet the legendary band Bananarama.

I say “legendary” although I honestly did not know who they were till I met them!! (and until I did not check that they were indeed the responsible for the famous song ‘Love at First Degree‘ that I am sure you all have heard during the 80s). My music knowledge sucks, I know…

La verdad es que sigo sin tener muchas ganas de contar todo el ajetreo que llevo encima, pero pensando en el día gris que llevo hoy (temas económicos que siguen siendo repetitivos en este blog) casi que me viene bien escribir para sacar todo lo bueno que está pasando últimamente.

¡Empezando por hoy! – Hoy hacemos presentación oficial de la serie que hace unos meses anuncié en este mismo blog: Denmark Street, que estamos realizandoPablo Maqueda, Abigail Álvarez, Daniel, Pedro Román y yo. Hoy Pablo hará los honores de presentarla, pues aparte de ser quien originó toda la idea de la serie cierto es que es el único que ha podido ir a Madrid. La fiesta va a tener lugar en la famosa Sala Sol, en el centro de Madrid (más información aquí para quien esté interesado en acudir) y van a tocar bandas como Ideallipsticks, Febrero (quienes amablemente nos proporcionan la banda sonora para la serie) y Arizona Baby.

A parte de estar ultimando la serie (que muchas ganas ya hay de que salga a la luz), no he tenido oportunidad de hablar de varias buenas noticias…

El festival de Portobello (que empezó ayer y desgraciadamente me perdí) va a tener en su programación ¡el cortometraje que realicé junto a mis compañeros de clase en segundo de carrera!; se trata de ‘Mimesis’, un corto surrealista y neo-noir que relata las aventuras de un detective que tiene una sobredosis (se puede ver aquí). Se proyectará el día 8 en la sección de ‘London Filmmakers’, en Westbourne Studios, en el bar. Es un festival muy prestigioso de cine independiente (quizás el más auténticamente independiente habría que decir), y hay que celebrarlo! (más información sobre la proyección aquí)

Por otro lado, profesionalmente he encontrado un curro temporal bastante ameno, probando videojuegos, aunque el proyecto está parado (estoy en uno de esos contratos de 0 horas tan “simpáticos” que tienen en Inglaterra) y bueno, aunque no tenga que ver con cine, no está mal tener un pie en una industria en auge (pues a ver quién me dice a mí que el cine me va a dar de comer).

Lo mejor de todo es que la empresa está situado dentro de las instalaciones de Pinewood Studios… ¡sí! donde se ruedan las de Harry Potter, James Bond y donde ahora se están ultimando los rodajes extras de la próxima de Guy Ritchie, Sherlock Holmes. La verdad es que es algo bastante alentador, y voy a ver si pueden enseñarme un poco las instalaciones (curioso, además, que las oficinas donde trabajo están en frente también de los fabricantes de Red-One, la nueva cámara digital revolucionaria, ¡y de vez en cuando hacen seminarios baratísimos!)

En fin.. no tento dinero en mi cuenta desde hace más de mes y medio, y necesitaba escribir esto para al menos pensar… seré pobre ¡pero afortunado!

PD: os preguntaréis a qué viene el título de Sonic; ayer tuve otra entrevista para probar videojuegos, en SEGA. Fueron de lo más desagradables: ni se presentaron ni nada, nos pusieron como en un examen de colegio a probar un juego de la DS (y yo tocando botones como un chimpancé pues en mi vida había tocado esta consola) y al final dicen que mi traducción no está a la altura de sus estándares. En fin… a lo mejor podría haberme puesto más tiquismiquis, pero pensé que querrían un lenguaje más juvenil, y me debí de equivocar. Nunca he sabido comportarme como una oveja.

It’s been long time since my last posting. And there’s been too much things going on lately – which I haven’t yet digested-. But now, just when everything seemed to brighten just a little bit, and just when my soul was filled again with confidence to face a new stressful period, an annoying thing happened… for the 3rd time!!: the External Hard Drive is broken.

It is the least dramatic thing that’s happened these days, I know, but I’d rather give some time to feelings to settle down before I express them. Another of the most shallow “dramas” these days has been the rejection of my latest short in several festivals to where I’ve spent a big deal of money on (some of the causes of my horrible economic situation now). This has increased my frustration as an independent filmmaker (would they ever weight up the material they receive beyond mere appearances?). For me £20 is like what for 20th Century Fox is -perhaps- £6000. And the funny thing is that I’ve sent it to festivals of the kind of “The Corner between 42nd Street and 5th Avenue Film Festival” (an extreme example that simplifies the level I’m aiming for right now)

The biggest drama, in any case, to an average man like me, is not the material fact of an object that breaks 9 months before the warranty expires, but the size and the value of the material he’s been storing for months with all the trust on a diabolic inanimate being… being this -as part of an average filmmaker- all the un-storable number of media files he has to work with and leave in a single location because of the impossibility of making a back-up… Yes; my University Final Video Project has completely vanished, along with my latest edited works, which are due to be ready in 2 or 3 weeks. THAT, indeed, is the drama I am talking about…

And now the dilema: “to store or not to store”… A being like me, obsessed with memories – fed with them in the latest dark weeks to overcome a more realistic drama- has to face the future with nothing to work with. What shall I do? Shall I keep trying? Getting another lifeless electronic good to store what my mind in unable to cope with? In the past this has meant the loss of other appreciated pieces I cannot even gather on a showreel because their quality is ludicrous. I have lost the editing files of shorts such as Mummy, I want some more, Popcorn or Mimesis, thanks to either my inability of affording an appropriate external hard drive (that would cost 2 or 3 times more than the one I acquired) or because I am completely jinxed with this type of technology.

There it lies, still blinking with that satanic blue light, making that horrid noise that confirms he is no longer a confidant to count with…

ChapuZeros en el "cuchitril de Patxi"

Uno de los proyectos a los que me quería lanzar este año era un ambicioso trabajo de 3 cortometrajes sobre memorias, cuyo objetivo era dar tanto práctica a la edición a través de Final Cut como un interesante docu-drama testimonial sobre momentos de amistad (Memories 1), familia (Memories 2) y varios temas todavía por determinar (Memories 3).

Quería, por supuesto, que fuera un trabajo totalmente al margen de otros proyectos, pero no he tenido la oportunidad de conseguir todavía una cámara de vídeo de 8mm para capturar el material que quiero recoger. Además, esto va a tomar muucho de mi tiempo libre… revisar recuerdos es una tarea tediosa, y a veces no muy fructífera… a veces uno se pone triste, contento, contemplativo y se encierra en un bucle sin salida, intentando dar explicaciones a cosas del pasado…

Al final; pospuesto. ¿Por qué? Porque después de haber realizado el cortometraje de Deadline me siento con bastante energía para sacar del baúl el guión de otro proyecto y moverlo p’adelante. Su título es Full Earth, y se trata de un melodrama de ciencia ficción donde una mujer cyborg pierde sus memorias…

¿Y qué obsesión tengo yo con las memorias? Bueno, tengo un apego bastante importante a cómo configuran nuestra identidad, de hecho adoro películas como Olvídate de mí (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Michel Gondry) o Mind Game (Masaaki Yuasa), las cuales tratan de memorias, y están entre mis favoritas. Probablemente mi primer largometraje (o al menos mi primer largo personal, no vaya a ser que me ofrezcan rodar algo por encargo y la pela es la pela…) tratará especialmente sobre memorias… llevo comentando la historia de La habitación de al lado desde que tenía 19 años a mil personas y de hecho, quería que fuese un corto… pero hace tiempo que sé que será mi primer largo (tantos años desarrollando la historia lo merece, ¿no?, aunque si quiera tengo escrito nada, solo el tratamiento)
